About Dr. Joanna Dong
Joanna Dong, MD, FAAD, is a board-certified dermatologist and mohs micrographic and reconstructive surgeon. She is a Volunteer Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and previously served as Clinical Instructor at Marion University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Indiana. She has performed 1,000 Mohs surgeries and reconstructions.
Dr. Dong grew up in Rockville, MD then moved to New York to attend Cornell University for her undergraduate studies, graduating summa cum laude. She earned her medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where she performed novel epigenetic research in melanoma, graduating with clinical and research honors as a top graduate in her class. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and subsequently trained with the world-renowned Dr. C. William Hanke at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana for fellowship in mohs micrographic surgery, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic dermatology.
Dr. Dong’s primary clinical focus is the management of skin cancers, including cutting-edge surgical and reconstructive techniques with emphasis on minimizing surgical scars and optimizing aesthetic outcomes. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters in skin cancer and dermatologic surgery, and has given oral presentations at national conferences. For her academic endeavors, she has won several prestigious grants and awards, including the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research grant.
